Janice's Story

Janice Cheek, a native of LaPlace, La., considers her artistic talent a gift from God, transferred from her artist father who died when she was only 16 months old. She began painting murals on walls at a very young age and began painting landscapes on canvas after experiencing an incredibly strong inspiration from her father. Her love of nature shows in her art.
She has experience with decorative painting on furniture, residential and commercial murals, swamp scenes and buildings. She especially enjoys painting portraits of private homes, businesses, pets, boats, and racecars as commissioned. She also has experience with commercial signs and logos.
She has experience working with students, K-12 in Ascension and surrounding parish schools on various projects such as theatrical set designs, billboards, greeting cards, etc. She has also taught painting for senior citizens at the Council on Aging in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes.
She has been commissioned to design several commemorative posters for organizations such as, the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund, the Ascension Parish Louisiana Tourist Commission, and the Donaldsonville Sunshine Festival. Chef John Folse, displays some of her work in his art collection, and her paintings are also displayed in other corporate and private collections.
